History

The role of the Central Library of Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE) in the life of the academic 'citadel' and in the universe of individual knowledge is to design a new pedagogy adapted to the contemporaneous world.

The close connection between library and school, specific to our cultural tradition, is evident in the case of the Central Library, whose beginnings are inseparable from those of the ASE the former is a part of.

The Central Library of AES has an over 90-year long tradition, as the law setting up the "Academy of High Commerce and Industrial Studies" (AHCIS) in 1913 also stipulated "the setting up, maintainance and obligatory functioning of the practical seminars and laboratories, as well as of the library".

1913

The Academy of High Commerce and Industrial Studies and its library are established .

1924 -1926

The new buildings of the Academy are built in Piata Romana.

1927

The library is organized based on the principles of biblioteconomy.

1935

The new location of the library is inaugurated, with 2 Reading rooms, 3 Study rooms and the Book Depository.

1948

The education law is adopted in the People's Republic of Romania, which stipulates that Marxism-Leninism and Dialectical Marxism will be studied compulsorily.

1955

The Library branch number reaches 38.

1990

The process of collection renewal begins, through international exchange and donations.

1996

The modernization of the Central Library begins, with a view to rendering a more scientific support to the teaching and learning process.

2005

A new redesign period begins, aiming to render the Central Library capable of supporting the research activity necessary for a comprehensive understanding of the ever more complex economic environment. During this period, the Central Library has been re-organized both functionally and aesthetically, in the attempt to comply with the new European higher academic standards and not only.

The mission of the Central Library of Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE) is to offer students the most valuable resources and the most professional services so as to enable them to attain performance in economic higher education.

In addition, the librarians in each reading room and the members of the Service for Bibliographical Research also provide specialized information about the content of the Library's collections.
